Places to see and things to do in the Tamar Valley

Callington is situated in the natural beauty of the Tamar Valley and central for a variety of wonderfully memorable days out.

The Callington Mural Trail

Unique in Cornwall, the Mural Trail of Callington showcases 14 murals, ensuring something new to see around every corner. Coombe Cottage is on the outskirts of the town and it's easily reached by car or foot.

Canoe Tamar

Canoe Tamar offer daily guided canoe trips following the tranquil River Tamar and through some of the most beautiful scenery in England. The company is based in Gunnislake, only fifteen minutes drive away from Coombe Cottage.

Dupath Well

The Dupath Well - managed by Cornwall Heritage Trust - is considered to be the most impressive well house in Cornwall. Although the well house is believed to have been constructed in 1510, the spring itself it thought to be the site of a pre-Christian shrine. You can find the well less than ten minutes drive from us.

The Eden Project

Less than an hour away is the famous Eden Project, home to some beautiful outdoor landscaping, two biomes, evening events and much more.

Hurlers Stone Circles

A Cornish Heritage site only quarter of an hour away, this Bronze Age monument is the source of more than one local legend.

Ken-Caro Garden

If you're visiting us between February and September, the Ken-Caro Garden is a beautiful place to spend some time. Described as 'one of Cornwall's hidden gems', it's a must-see for any affectionado of domestic gardens and less than ten minutes drive from Coombe Cottage!

Kit Hill Country Park

A 400 acre park, beautiful in any season and less than ten minutes from Coombe Cottage. Stunning views over to Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor and rich in archaeology dating back to the Neolithic period.

Morwellham Quay

The Quay is a fun and educational experience for all ages, based around the mining history of the Tamar area. A variety of museums, presentations and exhibitions - all set within the restored Morwellham Quay - can easily fill a day. The trip down the mines is well worth it for the adventurous! The Quay is just 20 minutes from Coombe Cottage.

St Mellion

For the golf lover, there may be no better place in Cornwall to enjoy a round on the course than at the famous St Mellion. For those who'd prefer to relax in a different way, St Mellion also features a health and spa service.

Tamar Valley Donkey Park

Cornwall's only donkey sanctuary and home to donkey, goats, sheep and more. Visitors are welcome to feed and pet the friendly animals. There's also a cafe and gift shop, as well as two children's play areas. The donkey park is situated in Gunnislake, just ten minutes away!

Trethevy Quoit

Another Cornwall Heritage site, Trethevy Quoit is a megalithic tomb ("the giant's house") and one of the most impressive dolmens in England.
